Daily Quiz Question – Which of the following statements about the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court of India is/are true: (1) The Constitution of India expressly provides that the President shall appoint the judges of the Supreme Court in consultation with the collegium; (2) A reiteration by the collegiums of the recommendation for the appointment of a judge to the Supreme Court is binding on the government; (3) Currently there are three women judges in the Supreme Court of India.

Clarification – The correct answer must be (Only 2). On the day of the original post, there were only 2 women judges in the Supreme Court of India. The Supreme court will have three women judges after the appointment and swearing in of Justice Indira Banerjee.  The original post has been modified accordingly to be in tune with the date of the post. As of today, (after the swearing in) there are three women judges in the Supreme Court of India – Justices R Bhanumathi, Justice Indu Malhotra and Justice Indira Banerjee — the most woman judges the apex court has had.
